I'm a child psychiatrist working to support missionary families in Africa. I have been based at Tumaini Counselling Centre in Nairobi, Kenya

Since 1991 I have worked with Africa Inland Mission through the Tumaini Counseling Center in Nairobi, Kenya. I have used my general, child, & adolescent psychiatry training to support missionary resilience, fruitfulness, and longevity. Missionaries serving in Africa come from around the world and serve under nearly 200 agencies. The work remaining is often in hostile spiritual, physical, political, social environments. AIM and other mission agencies are working together to maximize a strong team of mature, international Christian counselors to support these workers. AIM opened a second center in Kampala, Uganda in 2016. In addition to on-site care, occasional travel for conferences, and seminars, we have added an intensive counselling retreat format, and make use of telepsychiatry and telemental health when it is appropriate and feasible. We need additional psychiatrists, psychologists, and licensed counselors to support the critical work we are doing. The Tumaini Counseling Center website is www.tumainicounseling.net
